A note from Jason Bonilla:
We had our January survey this morning and came up with 24 species. We got really good looks at a Red-shouldered Hawk through the scope. The other Buteo that was giving us ID trouble I believe to be a Red-tailed Hawk. When we first saw it we were able to see the belly band. Then when it was perched with its back to us we observed the White V in the back. The tail had banding in it but looking up juvenile Red-tailed Hawks in National Geographic Complete Birds of North America references that the tail for a light-morph juvenile "is brownish with multiple thin, dark bands, often with a slightly wider terminal band."
