Woody the Red-Eared Slider Turtle Play Structure

  • PROJECT STATUS: COMPLETE!

  • CITY APPROVAL: COMPLETE INCLUDING final safety inspection!

  • FUNDING: COMPLETE!

As a playground enhancement, artistic element, and homage to the wooded/bayou portion of the park, FWP has worked with Dylan Conner (the sculptor of Firefly Field) to design a woodland creature sculpture — a red-eared slider turtle. The turtle is a climbing structure for children visiting the park and is constructed of powder-coated steel tubing that will last for decades. The Turtle play sculpture was installed in May 2023, and is adjacent to the playground equipment at the west lawn of the park.

Does the turtle have a name?

Yes it does....Woody! Congratulations to 6-year old Emily Barton who submitted the winning name in the Turtle Naming Contest for our new red-eared slider play sculpture. She loves playing at the park with mom and dad, John and Laura, and little sister, Caroline. We want to thank Emily for participating in the contest.
