Birds in the Park — September 2018

From Jason Bonilla, our resident bird expert with the Houston Audubon Society:

Hi all. We beat the rain this morning to complete our September bird survey. Not a whole lot of bird species to report. We did see a poor Great Blue Heron with some type of purple plastic string wrapped around its bill. I'm hopeful that the heron was able to remove that plastic since it did not appear to be tightly wound. Just another example of how plastic pollution impacts the environment. Here is the full list from this morning. The spreadsheet for all years is attached. Thanks to Susan Beane and her UHD math students who came out in good numbers to volunteer and to Mary Goldsby for her help with spotting and identifying the birds. Our next Woodland Park survey will be on Saturday, October 27th.

Thanks! Jason
