2 LAST requests for 2022: donation matching and park PETITION

December 31, 2022 Kelli Fereday

FWP has two exciting requests to close out 2022 with a bang!

First, sign the petition for the addition of the White Oak Greenway and surrounding environs to the City of Houston Park. The FWP Board wholeheartedly endorses this effort. For more information, see below.

Second, use this chance to make a final Year-End donation to FWP - and any donations made TODAY and New Year’s Day up to $2022 will be matched by our FWP Board President! All donations are tax-deductible in accordance with IRS laws.

We have so much in store for 2023! Woody the Turtle is in fabrication, we are progressing Tennis and Basketball court refurbishment with some addition of Pickleball markings, a GagaBall Pit is being planned, and so much more. Check out our Projects page to learn more.

Thank you and Happy New Year from the Board of FWP!

More Information from the organizers on the White Oak Greenway Petition:

The area is currently called White Oak Greenway — It acts like a park, but much of the area has no formal park designation from the city or county, leaving it unprotected.

We are looking to protect the areas along White Oak Bayou from Studewood to UH Downtown.

The area is under a mix of ownerships, from the city, to TxDOT, and Union Pacific Railroad. The 28 acre wooded parcel buffering Woodland Heights from the freeway falls under existing right of way (the green area) and is planned to be cleared to make way for freeway expansion and a detention pond. It’s possible that freeway development can further encroach on Woodland Park. TxDOT also has plans to nearly completely cover the portion White Oak Greenway east of I-45 with freeway ramps. Click here to see the TXDOT plans.
