Woodland Park Earns Lone Star Park Designation

We want to share with you some exceptional news; Woodland Park has been selected and designated as a 2018 Lone Star Legacy Park!

Per the criteria established by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society: “A Lone Star Legacy Park is a park that holds prominence in the local community and the state of Texas. These parks have endured the test of time and have become iconic to those who have visited, played, and rested on their grounds. A designation as a Lone Star Legacy is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed on a park.”

Members of HPARD and the city’s General Services Department asked and encouraged us earlier this year to assist with the application they were considering submitting that, if approved, would grant the park this rare designation. We were flattered and happy to assist with the effort, and were surprised when they recently told us the great news. As remarkable as the designation is in its own right, being so designated improves our chances of receiving grants and special funding for future significant park improvements such as those envisioned and drafted by SWA in their recent “master plan” for the park.

Woodland Park joins Memorial Park, selected in 2017, as a recipient of this special designation.

We wanted you, our loyal supporters, to be the first to learn of this great news.
